How To Make Scrumptious Toast Toppers

Breads like French bread, whole grain or wheat bread, sandwich bread, dinner rolls and many more are stock at homes as a breakfast basic, quick snack or appetizer. The quick way to use bread is toasting. However, not everyone is a fan of plain toast or bread slice smeared with plain butter, peanut butter, chocolate spread, cinnamon-sugar mixture, or as a French toast.

The idea of bread using as only a simple toast has move to next level.

Now, a toast is present as a meal. There are tons of combinations that could go along with a crunchy toast. Giving toast a makeover is not only fun, this also makes toasted bread rich in taste and fancy that you will be left to crave more.

Get ready to transform your regular toast with interesting and hearty combinations of toast toppers, fit for any meal.

First and foremost, prepare toast either in a toaster or bake bread slices. Slice bread loaves into ¼ inch thick slices and brush each side with butter generously. Arrange these slices in a baking tray, lined with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes until crispy and nicely light golden brown.

Now, the toasts are ready to savor any of the following toast toppers.

Avocado and Eggs Toast:

If you are using sesame bread for breakfast, this breakfast is a treat. Spread mashed avocado combined with ¼ teaspoon lemon juice on a toasted sesame bread slice. Spread with bits of crumbled goat cheese, then top with poach egg, hard-boiled egg, scrambled eggs or fried egg and sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Finish with asparagus spears, trimmed.

Even a toast with goat cheese and avocado topped with diced tomatoes taste yummy. Finish with olive oil before serving.

Tomato Toast:

A quick fix toast with yummy toast topper is piling square toast with combination of diced tomatoes, green onion, garlic and basil. Season with salt and black pepper and drizzle with white vinegar. This variation of toast topper is best for a tasty appetizer. If basil is not present, use parsley or coriander leaves instead.

Try this recipe with a new twist. Instead of diced tomatoes, use grilled cherry tomatoes.

Servings: 5 toasts

  • 1 pound cherry tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup cheese, to your liking
  • 4-5 bread slices, toasted

In a bowl, blend garlic, Worcestershire sauce and olive oil together until incorporated and let sit for 10 minutes. In the meantime, wash tomatoes, remove stem, add to the prepared marinade and toss to coat.

Coat tomatoes in skewers, sprinkle with salt and black pepper and grill each side for 3-5 minutes on high heat until cooked through.

Brush marinade on toasts, spread with cheese and top with tomatoes.

Hummus, Salsa and Marinara Sauce Toast:

A very popular and healthy version for toast topper is hummus dip.

The recipe of hummus is as follows.

Servings: 2 cups

  • 2 cups chickpeas, cooked
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup tahini paste
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup chopped parsley
  • ¾ teaspoon paprika

Place all the ingredients, except parsley, paprika, liquid in the blender and pulse for 2 minutes or until smooth. Tip the dip into a bowl, adjust seasoning and then stir in parsley and paprika.

Similar to hummus, easy to prepare and healthy salsa or Marinara sauce also goes perfect with a toasted bread pieces. The recipe of Salsa is,

Servings: 1 ½ cups

  • 6 large ripe tomatoes
  • 4 garlic
  • 3 jalapeño peppers
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 small red onion
  • 2 dry ancho chilies
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ cup fresh parsley pieces

Place all the ingredients in the blender and pulse for 2 minutes or until smooth.

Although marina sauce takes time to prepare but it is worth the wait.

Servings: 1 cup

  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 carrots
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups chopped tomatoes

Place a large pot over medium high flame and heat oil until hot. Then add onion and garlic and cook for 10 minutes until nicely golden brown. Peel carrots, chop and add to the pot, along with stalk, salt and black pepper. Cook for 10 minutes until vegetables are soft and then add tomatoes. Cook sauce for 1 hour until thickens. Adjust the seasoning and let the sauce cool before storing or serving.

Make head these sweet and sour sauces and enjoy anytime of the day with a toast bread slice, topped with sliced or roasted vegetables like peppers, potatoes, radish and diced cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, or even any seasonal fruit along with nuts.  My favorite is hummus toast topped with pomegranate, sliced walnuts and almonds.

Goat Cheese Toast:

Flavorful goat cheese pairs well with crunchy toast. Smeared goat cheese on a toast, sprinkle with chopped olives and roasted red peppers, and then season with salt, black pepper and red chili. Roasted mushrooms topped on crunchy bread with thyme and melted cheese is scrumptious like roasted red peppers and goat cheese. Follow the recipe.

  • 16 ounce mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Set oven at 375 degrees F and let heat until hot. Slice mushrooms, arrange on a lined baking tray in a single layer, and drizzle with oil. Sprinkle salt, black pepper and thyme over mushrooms and toss to coat. Place baking tray in the heated oven and roast mushrooms for 20 minutes until the edges begins to brown, stir halfway through. Top roasted mushrooms over toasted bread, top with cheese of your liking and bake toast in the oven for 3 minutes or until cheese melt, you can also add chopped tomatoes add this stage. Serve with scrambled eggs.

Cheddar Cheese Toast:

Cheddar cheese and tomato combination with toast is wonderful for a kid’s lunch box. Place toasted bread slices over lined baking tray, place a slice of tomato and red onion over each toast, and sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese, salt, black pepper and Italian seasoning. Bake until cheese melts completely, and then drizzle with olive oil and vinegar before packing for lunch.

Cream Cheese Toast:

The light flavor of cream cheese makes toast tasty. This toast is a treat for a sweet cravings when serve with raspberries, black berries, strawberry and basil. Switch up the flavors with avocado slices or pineapple slices, banana slices, mango slices, sliced pear and pomegranate seeds, sprinkle with chia seeds or nuts and honey.

Cream cheese and Bacon Toast:

Spread cream cheese over toasted bread slice, top with sliced cucumber and green onion, finish with smoked salmon and enjoy. Use this toast for breakfast by topping with fried egg.

Another interesting variation is topping cream cheese toast with cooked minced chicken, roasted beef, fried shrimps, sliced turkey, smoked salmon or tuna and finish by drizzling with barbecue sauce.

Mouthwatering Creamy Chicken Toast:

This toast recipe will add taste as a side dish to your meal table as a side dish.

  • 2 cups chopped cooked chicken
  • 4 tablespoons plain flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

In a medium saucepan, melt butter and then gradually stir in flour until combined. Then blend in milk slowly until smooth, stir constantly. Bring the mixture to boil, and then add chicken and season with salt and black pepper. Cook until heated through, top on toasted garlic bread slice and garnish with dill.
