How We Choose Our Ratings

We compared dozens of different stand mixers to find the ones with the best features, highest reviews, most responsive customer service, and top-quality results.

To give you the most honest and accurate buyer's guide possible, we analyzed all customer reviews for accuracy. Unfortunately, there's a trend on Amazon of companies paying for high ratings or using bots to leave reviews, so we made sure to filter out these reviews before calculating our scores. After all of our research, we came up with these choices for the best stand mixers for your kitchen.

Sunbeam FPSBSMGLW White 12 Variable Speed 350 Watt Stand Mixer With...
  • Sunbeam FPSBSMGLW White 12 Variable Speed 350 Watt Stand Mixer With Glass Bow
  • 350-watt motor
  • 12 variable speeds

Sunbeam is a company known for making inexpensive, reliable kitchen appliances, and their MIxMaster stand mixer is no exception. The 350-watt motor has twelve speed options as well a “burst of power” button on the handle for short pulses at higher speeds.

The mixer includes chrome beaters, whisks, and dough hooks, plus two glass bowls (a 2-quart and a 4-quart). A soft-grip handle makes it easy to tilt the head up and lock it into place.

Customers were pleased with how lightweight and small the MixMaster is, and they loved the non-skid rubber feet that keep it still and prevents scuff marks on the counter. The tilting head is removable, which makes it easier to clean and store. The glass bowls were also a pleasant surprise for many customers, because of how heavy and sturdy they are.

The plastic turntable is not removable, which some customers reported made it difficult to clean. The chrome beaters also do not reliably reach the bottom of the bowls, so reviewers had to use a rubber spatula to ensure all ingredients were getting mixed properly.

There were a few defective units shipped out, but between Amazon’s 30-day return policy and Sunbeam’s 2-year warranty, customer service was able to replace or refund all of the broken mixers. All in all, we gave the Sunbeam 2371 MixMaster stand mixer 4.1 out of 5 stars.

Cuisinart SM-55BK 5-1/2-Quart 12-Speed Stand Mixer, Black
  • 800-watt stand mixer housed in durable die-cast metal
  • 12 speeds; 5-1/2-quart stainless-steel bowl; slow-start and gentle-fold functions
  • 15-minute countdown timer; 3 power outlets; auto shutoff; tilt-back head

Cuisinart’s SM-55BK stand mixer has a 12-speed, 800-watt motor for powerful mixing. It comes with three stainless steel attachments: a chef’s whisk, flat mixing paddle, and dough hook. The removable splashguard has a convenient pour spout to make it easier to add ingredients during the mixing process.

A 15-minute countdown timer with automatic shutoff means you can leave the stand mixer running while you’re multi-tasking in the kitchen. The 5.5-quart stainless steel bowl has handles for convenient carrying.

Both the bowl and the attachments are dishwasher safe, which customers really liked. The 3-year warranty adds some confidence to what can be a significant investment for families on a budget.

However, customer service doesn’t appear to be easy to get ahold of, and they weren’t always responsive to complaints online. Several reviewers had problems with the power – the 800-watt motor was a little overpowered and would shutoff if left running for too long.

There were also quite a few reviews that seemed to be fake, from what looked like bot accounts and paid contributors. We removed some points because of the low-quality reviews and the high price, giving the Cuisinart SM-55BK stand mixer 4.2 out of 5 stars.

  • Technology Leader - Noise: 70 ~ 80DB, it would make you feel very comfortable during the working...
  • Powerful Motor With 6 Speeds: 500W High performance motor, 6-speed mixer for all your food...

The Aicok MK-37 is 600-watt, 6-speed planetary mixer; the head and the attachments rotate in opposite directions to ensure that every part of the bowl gets mixed. It comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl with a convenient handle, as well as a splash guard, flat beater, wire whisk, and double dough hooks.

The MK-37 has anti-slip silicone suction cups on the base, which keeps the mixer from bumping around during use. The placement of the handle on the bowl makes it very easy to carry even for people with arthritis or grip problems.

We initially gave this mixer a much higher rating; however, we discovered that Amazon deleted many positive reviews for being fake, and a lot of the remaining positive reviews were low quality and factually incorrect.

The negative reviews complained that the MK-37 is very loud, and a lot of the moving parts are made from flimsy plastic and have a tendency to snap or break during use. Also, the dough hooks and flat beater are not dishwasher safe, making them less convenient to clean.

Though the Aicok MK-37 stand mixer has some great features and a reasonable price, the questionable reviews and reported issues brought our rating down to 4.2 out of 5 stars.

Hamilton Beach’s 63390 stand mixer is a compact model with a 300-watt motor and seven speeds. It comes with a 4-quart stainless steel mixing bowl and three attachments including a dough hook, whisk, and flat beater. The planetary mixing head tilts up and locks into place for safety, and the included splatter shield includes a large spout so you can add ingredients while mixing.

Customers found the size convenient for cramped kitchens and small-serving recipes. The non-slip rubber feet keep the mixer still even at high speeds, and the mixing bowl and all attachments are dishwasher safe for easy clean-up.

Hamilton Beach customer service responded quickly to almost every negative review on Amazon offering refunds and replacements to dissatisfied customers. The most common complaint was the motor burning out while mixing heavier doughs. The sturdy little Hamilton Beach 63390 stand mixer earned 4.4 out of 5 stars.

CHEFTRONIC SM986-Red Standing Mixer, One Size, Red
  • CHEFTRONIC stand mixer strong motor can mix up to 2kg dough in one-go; 6-speed control features...

The CHEFTRONIC SM-986 is a large stand mixer with a 650-watt motor and six speeds and includes a stainless steel bowl with a 5.5-quart capacity. The mixer comes with a wire whip, dough hook, flat beater, and flex edge beater, as well as a “redesigned” splashguard that is apparently easier to remove than the previous version.

The SM-986's silicone suction cup feet keep the mixer from dancing around on your counter, and the mixer is surprisingly quiet given its high-powered motor. The flex edge beater does a great job of scraping dough and batter from the sides and bottom of the bowl.

CHEFTRONIC is a Chinese company, and the instructions they include in the box are not very clear for English speakers. Their customer service can also be tough to reach, though they've responded to a few of the negative reviews. All of the positive reviews on Amazon and other websites appeared to be genuine though.

We were surprised by the quality of the CHEFTRONIC SM-986 since we'd never heard of the company before. We gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Tilt-Head Stand Mixer with Pouring...
  • 10-speed slide control ranges from a very fast whip to a very slow stir
  • Includes Flat Beater, Dough Hook and Wire Whip
  • Power Hub for Additional Attachments,Volts- 120

KitchenAid’s Artisan stand mixer has a 325-watt, 10-speed slide control motor and comes in a whopping 45 color options. It includes a flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip, plus you have the option of purchasing 12 other attachments.

The 5-quart mixing bowl has a large handle, and the detachable splash shield has an extra-large chute for adding extra ingredients. The planetary mixing action provides 59 touchpoints on the bowl per each rotation for thorough mixing.

KitchenAid has an incredibly loyal fanbase that goes back more than four decades. They love the optional attachments that are interchangeable with other KitchenAid appliances, such as a meat grinder and a pasta maker. Customers also liked how quiet the energy-efficient motor is.

Despite the planetary mixing head, the provided beater and whip can't always scrape dough from the sides and bottom of the bowl; there's an optional attachment you can purchase from KitchenAid that does a much better job. Some models shipped with a gray, oily substance leaking out of the head, but Amazon and KitchenAid were both very responsive to customer complaints.

The most alarming thing about the customer reviews was that Amazon had deleted 40 of them in recent history, which means they were probably fake and/or purchased by the seller. Even after Amazon deleted those reviews, though, the average customer rating was still very high. If the price were lower, this could have been our top pick, but overall, we felt it deserved 4.6 out of 5 stars.

Hamilton Beach 63232 Eclectrics All-Metal Stand Mixer - Red
  • Planetary mixing action rotates the beaters around for even and complete bowl coverage
  • 12 speed settings Hamilton Beach eclectrics stand mixers let you go from a slow stir to a fast whip,...
  • Designed for durability Eclectrics stand mixers give you a powerful 400-watt motor and a...

Since this is the second Hamilton Beach stand mixer on our list, and it has a lot of similarities to the 63390 model, we’ll focus only on the differences between the two.

The 63232 “Eclectric" mixer has a more powerful, 400-watt motor, as well as twelve speed settings. The mixer is constructed almost entirely of metal, making it heavier and more substantial than the smaller model. The planetary mixer automatically adjusts to the thickness of whatever you're mixing, and you can remove the quick-release tilt head for cleaning and storage.

Customers appreciate the metal construction of this stand mixer, as it’s reminiscent of old-fashioned mixers that were built to last a long time. The motor is quiet, and the 4.5-quart mixing bowl is small enough to make single servings, but large enough for more substantial recipes as well.

A few reviewers had issues with the motor burning out or smoking after heavy use. Hamilton Beach customer service wasn't quite as responsive to these reviews as they were on the cheaper model, which is surprising.

Though the Hamilton Beach 63232 Eclectric stand mixer costs almost $100 more than the 63390 model we reviewed earlier, it seems to be much more popular with customers. We gave it 4.7 out of 5 stars.

KitchenAid KP26M1XNP 6 Qt. Professional 600 Series Bowl-Lift Stand...
  • Over 10 colors available
  • Multipurpose attachment hub, over 15 optional attachments
  • 6-quart stainless steel bowl, comfortable handle. Bread Yield -Loaves : 8.25

The Breville BEM800XL mixer has 12 speeds with electronic controls and an LCD timer display. Its 550-watt motor has load sensing technology to protect itself from burnout, and the planetary mixing head uses "lift assist" for smooth raising and lowering.

The mixer comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl with a 2-piece pouring shield, and it includes extra-wide attachments like a scraper beater, flat beater, wire whip, and dough hook. The base of the mixer has built-in handles to make it easier to carry, and there's a convenient power cord storage area inside it.

Breville has an excellent reputation for high-quality kitchen appliances, and the Scraper Mixer Pro is no exception. The included flexible scraper beater with the mixer can fold in at the edges, allowing it to scrape against the sides and bottom of the bowl. The mixer itself is made of die-cast metal, which makes it look and feel like a professional appliance.

Despite the load sensing technology, some customers reported that the motor could get very hot at high speeds, and they thought it could be that the motor is underpowered. Breville customer service did not respond to these reviewers publicly.

The Breville BEM800XL Scraper Mixer Pro is a premium appliance at a premium price. If you can afford to make this investment, it will definitely be worth the money, but we know that this mixer won’t be obtainable for families on a budget. We felt it earned 4.8 out of 5 stars.

KitchenAid Classic Series 4.5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, White...
  • 275-watt, 10-speed mixer with tilt-up head
  • 4-1/2-quart bowl holds Enough capacity to mix up to 6 dozen cookies, 3 loaves of bread or 6 pounds...
  • Three handy accessories: flat beater, wire whip, and dough hook

Diehard KitchenAid fans will not be surprised that we gave the K45SSWH Classic stand mixer our top spot. It comes with all the bells and whistles of the Artisan model, but for $60 cheaper.

The motor is 275 watts and has ten speeds, and the included stainless steel bowl has a 4.5-quart capacity, meaning the Classic mixer is a little smaller than the Artisan. It still comes with the same accessories as the more expensive model and has the same planetary mixing head and power hub for optional accessories.

Customers were pleased with the classic styling of this mixer, which is specifically designed to replicate older KitchenAid stand mixers. Despite the low wattage, the motor is powerful enough to get the job done, and it's energy-efficient.

This is the only mixer on our list that doesn’t come with a splashguard which some reviewers are unhappy about. The stainless steel bowl may ship with a lot of polishing material on it, so you need to wash it thoroughly before you use it.

The popularity and price of the KitchenAid K45SSWH Classic stand mixer were just enough to nudge it above the Breville and earn it our top spot with 4.9 out of 5 stars.
